PicCap - Hyperion Sender App | Ambilight for LG WebOS TVs

  • Just a little heads up, that PicCap, an Hyperion sender app is nearing a state where it is running flawlessly.

What does this mean: The sender-app is running directly on your LG TV, is grabbing the picture and is sending the info to Hyperion via flatbuffer.

No additional hardware required, no USB-grabbers, no HDFury Diva, no splitters. Dolby Vision: Sure! 120 Hz: Yes! Tone Mapping? Not needed!

Prerequisites: Hackable firmware on your LG OLED! Hopefully you did not update yours to the latest firmware. You need to root your TV ;)

  • ...Netflix, Disney, Amazon from die onboard-apps you mean? Yes! Runs everything with HDR, DV... this is exactly like Phlips Ambilight.

As currently it requires root access and LG TVs do not run Android the app cannot be downloaded from Google Play... but installation is easy, once you TV is hacked! There's no better solution available!

  • i would guess that because the app has extension.IPK they can also make it in extension .APK for android. :/:thumbup:

i dont have LG tv or want to have one.

Now i have Nvidia Shield PRO with Android Hyperion screen grabber, but this doesn't grab Netflix/Disney/Amazon services unfortunately

  • Mit WebOS 05.40.09 bisher auch kein Erfolg. ;(

    { "public": [ "org.webosbrew.hbchannel.service/*" ], "ares.webos.cli": [ "org.webosbrew.hbchannel.service/*" ] }

  • Before first appstart

You have to edit the permission file for the Homebrew Channel, to make it's service available to others:

Connect to your TV with SSH.

    Open /var/luna-service2-dev/api-permissions.d/org.webosbrew.hbchannel.service.api.json with

Press 'a' to get into editmode and change org.webosbrew.hbchannel.service.group to public, so you have the following text in this file:

Press 'ESC' to exit editmode, save with typing :wq! and pressing 'Enter'. Simply reboot your TV after that.

  • So this is a great piece of software - I’m hoping to utilise it to limit the number of wires going to the TV.

I’ve got it up and running but I’ve noticed it has more lag than the usb plugged in card. I wonder if this is a software limitation (Hyperion or piccap) or my set up limitation (pi2+ with a wireless dongle, so signal travels across the ether multiple times)?
