Pi running Android tv

  • Looking at running s pi4 with Android tv. The pi will be the only source I use on my TV. Can I run Hyperion without a capture card. As the piwill be plugged directly to TV.

  • Certainly not relevant, but will give it a shot:

You can get old models of "HP ProDesk Mini"-Series for small money as 2nd hand (sometimes less than 100€).

They have an Intel i3, mostly 8GB RAM and a proper SSD.

Sometimes cheap listings come even with Skylake/Kabylake which offer up to date hardware video support for 4k/HDR (HDCP 2.2, H.264 (AVC), H.265 (HEVC) and VP9)

In combination with a wireless mouse and keyboard these are a good choice for small, silent media HUBs for the living room.

Run them with Windows or Linux.

HP has done a very good job building a clean, modular mini-PC with excellent maintainability and no nonsense

Protip: CPUs are not soldered, you can swap them :)

Such a solution is way more powerful and flexible than a Raspberry at a (relatively) comparable price point.
