PWM on alternate GPIO Pins

  • Anyone have any success running ws2812b or similar strips using PWM on a GPIO pin other than GPIO18? I've tried 12 and 13 both with channel 0 and channel 1 and can't get it to work. (I've also tried GPIO19 which is listed as PWM but I've read in various posts that it's not actually intended for PWM.) I've hit the usual suspects: disable audio, run hyperion as root, etc. Is there a setting I'm missing to get this working on GPIO12 or 13?

Everything works great on GPIO18. So I know the PI and the strip are good.

Why not just use GPIO18? Well, ultimately my goal is to run multiple instances. I've seen someone mention the PI can't do it, but no explanation why. At the risk of distracting from the actual question about other GPIO pins, if anyone can answer the multi-instance question definitively that would be great. If they can explain why, that's even better.
