Rookie here. I have setup Hyperbian with LED strips on a PI 4 and would like to add more lights to the system. How do I go about adding the devices to the system and what do you recommend getting?

You need a HUB for it, wireless Wifi lamps without HuB dont work on hyperion.
A HUB is device to connect the ambilight to, ,to that device you connect to with hyperion.
You do that with creating Instance, in there at Led hardware you can add extra ambilight systems
I have the Philips HUE lamps synchronized with Hyperion.NG

That’s not true. I use WiFi Yeelight bulbs. However, I’m considering a different solution. One of my bulbs keeps disconnecting from Hyperion, and I’m not sure why. It could just be a faulty bulb, but before buying a replacement to test, I wanted to explore other options.

not true? HUE from Philips is the only type I use, I am talking from that experience. I don't use anything else only Wled on WiFi on separate instances
