HD108 or something else?

  • Hi, i have some sk9822 (144/m) and had only trouble with them. Starting from having 3 injection points up to "dont shine enough". So i thought i check the current situation and found about HD108. Anyone experience with that? What also comes to my mind:

    1) Will they work with 5v without having multiple injection points?

    2) Is there any seller in the EU? If not, which aliexpress/alibaba source is reliable?

    3) Is the HD108 brighter than the sk9822 (rgb) in general or do i need HD108 RGBW?

    Thanks!

  • i read about the HD108, its a 16 bit architecture led.

The APA102 ledcontroller runs on 8 bit architecture.

it will be a challenge to get it running, it demands you alter Pythonscript/library of the leddriver.

i have the HD107S (8 bits) and the colours are already out of this world and run on APA102 ledcontroller;)

with other words: yes it excist the HD108, on a Raspi? nope.

    PR 1826 - Implemented 16Bit HD108-Leds in HyperionNG

    1. No

    2. Search with your browser.

    3. Probably no one can answer that yet.

    EDIT:

How many meters do you need?

How many LEDs do you use?

60 LED/m is completely sufficient for Ambilight.

I would currently use HD107S or SK6812 RGBW.

    injections:

    SK6812 RGBW 5V every 150 LED (300 LED 3 injections)

    HD107S 5V every 300 LED (300 LED 2 injections)

    Dreambox ONE / TWO

    dreamOS OE2.6

    Amlogic S922X - 53.000 DMIPS - 2 GB RAM - 16 GB Flash - Twin-DVB-S2X Tuner - HDR10 - HLG
    -
AudioDSP: miniDSP 2x4HD - Amp: Pentagon - Lautsprecher ELAC / ARENDAL
    LG OLED65BX9LB (PicCap, hyperion.NG webOS)

    FireTV 4K max

    -
    hyperion (classic) & Plugin HyperionControl | hyperion-ng 2.0.16-beta.1 (dreamOS)
    Hyperion-ng (Debian bullseye)
    -
    6 x ESP32/Wemos D1 mini - WLED - SK6812 RGBW-NW 60 LEDs/m
    FeinTech VSP01201 - Grabber Macrosilicon

LG TV Hyperion webOS & PicCap

Its a 65" OLED, so i assume something around 3.5m. Right now i use 144 LEDs/m. I have 3 voltage injections but the LEDs are barely visible. If i need multiple voltage injections, i guess i will put the power supply in the basement and get a 12V power supply + new LEDs. I use wled to control the LEDs and hyperion on a odroid n2.

    • Official Post

    65" approx. 4,4m

    5V

    sk6812 RGBW (49mA/LED) 60 LED/m 264 LEDs injections 3

    sk9822 144 LED/m (20mA/LED) 634 LEDs injections 5

    12v

    SK6812 RGBW 60 LED/m 264 LEDs injections 2.

WLED is optimal for SK6812 good colors and brightness, HD 107S works too.

Attention! Pay attention to individually addressable LEDs.

  • How do you calculate the numbers? e.g. 5 injections on sk9822 when 144led/m? right now i have 80x80x142cm (LxRxT) with 3 injections, the colors are perfectly fine but its not bright enough. So guess the SK9822 is simply not made for that. Or the location of the TV is not optimal.

With pure Ambilight, 3 feed points should deliver a good result.

And with 144 LED/m also enough brightness.

Try the settings in the screenshot in WLED, it's the best test.

    EDIT:

Please take a screenshot of WLED LED & Hardware setup

  • WLED is currently not running because i did not use my diy ambilight for over a year, because of the bad result. But i can remember that i configured it to use max. power (100A) so should be more than enough oomph. I did some tests, i also used a mobile phone app to let it run but it was still not really bright. Compared to e.g. the ambilight from my mom's philips TV.

I am now away for 3 weeks, will see if i can get it running again then to take the screenshot.

Unfortunately, i can not edit my last posting somehow. Seems some (annoying) restriction. I mean 100W, not 100A ;) 5V@20A
