After the update, the USB grabber is not working

  • Hello, I am reaching out to you for advice regarding the update or configuration of Hyperion NG v2.1.1 I am unable to update to a version higher than v2.0.16. If I update to 2.1.1 or 2.1.2-beta, the USB Grabber does not detect the image (black screen). Hyperion sees the USB Grabber and is able to work with it. In v2.0.16 everything works without issues. I have tried both my installation (RaspbianOS v12) and directly HyperBian. I tried first upgrading from v2.0.16 -> v2.1.xx but the result is that the USB grabber does not detect the image. I also tried a clean installation directly of v2.1.xx. It behaves the same with HyperBian. v2.0.16 works fine, but any higher version does not work.

    HW: RPi3B+

USB Grabber: 534d:2109 MacroSilicon USB Video

    Source Selection: Capture USB-Input: (V4L2)

As we say, 'Morning is wiser than evening,' and the morning coffee helped too 😊 The error was in the setting of nonsensical values in the items: Capturing Hardware/USB Capture/Hardware contrast control (default value: 57343) and Hardware saturation control (default value: 57343). It's enough to change both values to something normal (255), and everything works 😊

  • hello,

just upgraded from 2.016 to 2.1.1 Hyperbian distro without any hassle on a Raspi 3b with

    Hyperion-2.1.1-Linux-armv7l.deb package.

so problem probably lies in your updating packets/drivers for the Raspi.

i ain't a Linux expert whatsoever, but i know that you can update the library (did it myself) with Putty SSH really easy.

    after that everything worked fine.

i had also problems with HDMI driver on the raspi, with updating library everyting worked (years ago already)

update: after updating Hyperion 2.1.1 it suddenly stops after approx 5 min and restarts all the time.

So i did a "downgrade" back to 2.016

now that behaviour stopped, after this problem is resolved i go back to latest version 2.1.1

but i didn't have any issues with the USB grabber not working.

  • Here's a kinda stupid but easy way I fixed my Hyperion 2.1.1 USB capture black screen issue:

Go to the configuration web interface, switch to expert mode, then navigate to 'Capture Hardware'. Once there, just set both contrast and saturation to around 100 (or play with values close to that). Hope it works for others too.

  • Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. Sometimes it runs for 20 minutes, sometimes for an hour, and then the lights go out again. I have to turn Hyperion off and on again for the LEDs to light up again. Do you have instructions on how you did this via Putty SSH to install the correct drivers?

  • You have fixed the problem where the default grabber values are set to 0 in Hyperion 2.1.1. Once it has been running for a while, it is no longer Hyperion's fault.

    See your other post...
