HDFury Arcana 2 + AVR mit HDMI Dual Out = perfekte Ambilight-Lösung?

  • Hallo zusammen,

    Mein Setup:

    AVR (Denon X2800H):

    HDMI Out 1 → TV

    HDMI Out 2 → HDFury Arcana 2

    HDFury Arcana 2:

HDMI Out → HDMI Grabber → Hyperion

    Frage:

Beim skalieren wird vermutlich also keine Frame Raten Konvertierung geben.

Edited 2 times, last by DayOne: Ein Beitrag von DayOne mit diesem Beitrag zusammengefügt. (August 4, 2025 at 9:55 PM).

  • Frage

    Dear HDFury Support Team,

I am writing to you regarding the detailed capabilities of the HDFury Arcana 2, specifically concerning its ability to tone map HDR signals (HDR10, Dolby Vision) to SDR for use with an external Ambilight system like Hyperion.

I plan to integrate the Arcana 2 into my home theater setup to route HDR content from various sources (e.g., Apple TV, Blu-ray players) to my projector or television. Simultaneously, I use a Hyperion-based Ambilight system which requires an SDR video signal for color analysis to accurately control the LEDs.

My main question is whether and how the HDFury Arcana 2 is capable of enabling reliable and high-quality HDR to SDR tone mapping of the signal directed to the separate audio output or the "scaler" port. The goal is to obtain a correct SDR signal that accurately maps the HDR information (brightness, colors) so that the Ambilight effects precisely reflect the mood of the HDR content without appearing over- or underexposed.

    Specifically, I am interested in:

    * Does the Arcana 2 directly support tone mapping from HDR10 and Dolby Vision (LLDV) to SDR for one of its outputs?

    * How can I configure the Arcana 2 to ensure an optimized SDR signal for my Hyperion system? Are there specific EDID settings or modes recommended for this purpose?

    * What quality characteristics can I expect from the Arcana 2's tone mapping? Will color space conversions (e.g., Rec.2020 to Rec.709) also be performed correctly and with minimal loss?

    * Are there any known best practices or specific recommendations for integrating the Arcana 2 into a Hyperion/Ambilight setup to achieve the best possible results?

The ability to generate a precise HDR to SDR signal for my Ambilight system is very important for my purchasing decision. I would greatly appreciate a detailed response and any technical recommendations from your side.

Thank you for your time and support.

    Sincerely,

    Antwort

    Hi there Dennis

The arana 2 cannot convert HDR to SDR at all.

The only device hdfury makes that can convert LLDV, HDR to SDR would be the diva.

The diva also has its own ambient lights that are available for it.

I am unsure if the ambilight setup you have will work or not with it. As Hdfury devices only have hdmi outputs.

    The diva is available from

    https://www.hdfury.com/product/4k-diva-18gbps/

Aber was bedeutet besser?

    HDFury X4

HDfury X4 is now capable of converting 1080p HDR to 1080p SDR for perfect streaming while gaming in 4K HDR, for ambient light solution or for capture and display needs.

The difficulty with this HDR to SDR conversion actually does not lie in the algorithmic mapping of HDR PQ signal into the SDR domain but the fact that the result video even when converted with just PQ conversion does not look the same on TV.

Its clear that when a HDR tv goes into HDR mode, it activates processing that is not uniform across different TVs. the image appears somewhat different between HDR TVs based on our experiments.

Therefore, said from another point of view, what you see on HDR TV – when converted back to SDR – does not appear similar on different 1080p screens because the HDR image already was different.

Also, different HDR sources are mastered for different target nits. Some for 1100 / 1400 or 4000 or 10000 nits. Regular SDR is 300nits. So converting and scaling from a moving target into 300nits is another issue. Sometimes image is darker and sometimes lighter.

All these taken into account the product needs a robust color processing in addition to PQ conversion. We have done just that and thats why the delay to do it. Here is the first iteration of all the color algos + PQ conversion done and to us they look good already.
