Hyperion Connection issues

  • I’ve just finished setting up some Nanoleaf panels and am using Hyperion to sync them with my screen, I’m using a basic usb capture card and a pi4 on WiFi.

I am able to connect the nanoleafs and everything will work fine for a few minutes, then Hyperion seems to stop working I can no longer access the web interface and the lights freeze then just turn off after a little while, Hyperion does restart eventually but only one of my nanoleaf devices resyncs I have to open the Hyperion web interface and turn the instance off and on for the other nanoleaf devices to connect. Then after a few minutes the Hyperion service goes down again. Does anyone have any idea of what could be going on?

  • So I am currently using hyperbian is the install for the nightly build different? I’m seeing it support on Ubuntu. Does it still automatically launch when the pi is powered on? I’m a little confused on how it would compare to hyperbian. I’m a little new to all of this.

HyperBian is a package of an operating system with Hyperion pre-installed.

It comes with the latest Release, not Nighly.

Nevertheless, you can switch the version of the pre-installed software.

If you have a spare SD card, it might be best, if you install another HyperBian and then switch the release. So you could test savely.

    To switch:

    1. log into HyperBian via ssh.

    2. remove the current Hyperion

    3. install the nightly build

The respective easy install script commands you find here:

Hyperion on Linux · Hyperion documentation

The install script takes care that Hyperion is auto started.

  • I’m very confused on the whole ssh thing I’ve never used something like this before is there anyway I could get some help

I also don’t have a spare sd card is there anyway to install this directly to sd I have?

Is there anyway to update directly on the pi itself or do I need to do the ssh stuff?

so i was able to figure out how to connect to my hyperbian thru ssh im using puTTy but am still confused i am running the uninstall command on the easy install section of the documents you sent. then after thats complete i run the easy install nightly command it seems to be installing. after i try and run "systemctl start hyperion" and it give me an error that the hyperion.service is not found. please let me know what im doing wrong.

i keep getting further little by little I have successfully installed the nightly version it says nightly beta on my web interface. ive connected my nanoleafs and checking log i keep getting an error

    Code
Cannot resolve mDNS hostname for given service [Shapes C5F1._nanoleafapi._tcp.local]!
    Code
Device disabled, device 'nanoleaf' signals error: 'Failed to open device'

i am unsure of how to fix this once again any help would be much appreciated :)

    systemctl start hyperion@username

Use HyperBian's default user (and password), if asked for

    • User: hyperion
    • Password: ambientlight

If mDNS doesn't work, try it by entering the IP address.
