Hi everyone,
I’m new to Hyperion and trying to set up ambient lighting using HyperBian, but I’m facing an issue where the Live View shows a black screen and the LEDs don’t work with the video input, even though other effects work fine.
Setup Details
- Raspberry Pi: 3B+
- Hyperion Version: 2.1.1 (HyperBian)
- LEDs: WS2812B connected to GPIO18
- HDMI Splitter (1 in, 2 out):
HD 102 Powered Splitter Certified Support - USB HDMI Capture Card:
Tobo Streaming Broadcasting Conference Teaching
Connection Flow
- Smart set-top box → HDMI splitter input
- Splitter output 1 → TV
- Splitter output 2 → USB HDMI capture card
- Capture card → Raspberry Pi (USB)
What’s Working
- LEDs are configured correctly in Hyperion
- Test effects like Atomic Swirl and other animations work perfectly
- USB capture card works correctly when tested on my PC
- Capture device is detected by the Raspberry Pi
- Capture hardware is enabled in Hyperion
The Problem
- In Live View, the screen is mostly black
- Ambient lighting does not react to video
- After changing some settings in the Hardware / Capture settings, sometimes:
- Random colors appear on the LEDs
- TV briefly shows a blue screen
- Video appears on both the TV and Hyperion Live View
- Ambient lighting works for a few seconds
- After that, Live View goes black again and LEDs stop reacting
What I’ve Tried
- Rechecked LED configuration
- Tested multiple Hyperion effects (all work)
- Verified capture card functionality on PC
- Confirmed the Pi detects the capture device
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
