New SPI drive for PWM leds

  • Hi guys, as instructed I'm opening a separate tread with my question.

I use currently ws2812b leds with PWM ws281x drive on my RPi2 actually with no bigger issues.
However a new SPI drive for PWM leds has been introduced recently in the newest version of Hyperion.

So taking that into consideration should I be interested in it?

Is it somehow better? Which pin should I use?

Cheers and congratulations for a great job guys :)

    Hey,

would be nice if you could test and give feedback to us if it is better or not, if you say you have no big issues with pwm then you have a good base to evaluate :)

you have to use the MOSI pin on the rpi :)

  • If you want to use analog audio at the same time then the SPI driver is better.

The pi in my loungeroom needs analog audio and at the time there was no RPi2/3 PWM solution so I originally used a small arduino to convert SPI data to ws2812 data.

I later realized I could abuse the SPI interface to do it directly
