Apps should discover hyperion automatically - no ip/port configuration
Due to the point in case you want to force the forwarder to use a ip address instead, a option at hypercon should be available to disable and enable the auto detection.

What if you have 4 instances running ?
The app should detect the servers and then allow you to select/enable each of them.
Apps could use its avahi / multicast dns name already as raspberry has that by default however most expect it as an IP address like the Kodi addon, that is one the to-do list for the new Hyperion apps and we already connect that way in AtmoLight.
When IP changes occur it will recheck and connect again, for automatic discovery on the other hand we would need a decent library and preferably one that comes out of Qt like this one:
https://github.com/johanneshilden/qtzeroconf
In the service registration name we can include instance ids / names and other info.
@penfold42
yes, of course. Was a little bit unspecified
@Rick164
Yeah, something like this sounds good?
<- no c++ coding skills
Can do a bit of C++ but more C# / .NET orientated and doesn't look terrible hard to implement, gonna focus on the apps first this month when work projects cool down a bit that is
We do need some unique identifier per instance other than proto / json port so probably gonna require a config setting as well to name the instance (TV / Orbs / etc..), once the apps are completed and we don't have it will work on that next
Sounds good! Can´t wait
/moved to dev - "finished" (qt5 pending)
The current code also works with qt5.
The comp layer that is thrown as warning results from qt4 usage in general?
-> See dev discussion
It's not related to qt4 or qt5.
It's the APIs that this particular library uses.
I'm hoping the other library I found that is qt5 only uses a different api
yeah v2
