4k HDR Capable HDMI Splitter (supposedly)

  • Best of luck - I have tried a ton of different devices and configurations (including the combo dave posted here) and none of it has worked for me. I honestly am at a loss because all the pieces are there and it still just doesnt work (cant get a signal to the pi at 4k even with 2 different scalers).

Please be sure to share your results!

I think you should buy "Dream Screen" from a startup which claims to do 4K and HDR. Otherwise one could also buy a ~$300 device that someone mentioned in this forum.

Personally I am still sticking to the windows grabber plugin for Hyperion which works with 4K and HDR.

  • I bought that one from HDTV supply - unfortunately it did not work for me even after trying 2 different splitters with EDID management (even the one specifically outlined as working with it on another site). I even tried another scaler from HDTV supply (the $150 one) and that did not want to work either. I wish I knew why.

I've tried a bunch of different devices, which I have been documenting in this thread:

I wish I had better news for you

So did you try to use this exact set from Clear Vision UK? https://www.clearvisionsystems…d-scaler-combination-pack

Or when you said it didn't work did you mean the downscaler and splitter combo in general? I'm talking with them over at Clear Vision trying to find out if it would work but if you tried this exact set from Clear Vision and it didn't work then I'm not going to bother to try.

I didn't try that exact set - but I used the scalar from HDTV supply with this splitter:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/1x2-4…EDID-Support/322945827714

It seems to be the same one - unless they flashed custom firmware to theirs which is possible... But I don't see what purpose that scalar would even serve without that specific splitter because it forwards the EDID of the output (as outline in the description on that site), so any device you hook it up to will just ignore it.

However there was another user in this forum who reported success with it - although it sounded like he had to fiddle with the HDMI wires (power things on and connect wires in a certain order) to get it to behave as expected... Which isn't something I want to have to worry about.

Good luck though, please share your results if you decide to roll the dice!

  • I appreciate the clarification. Thanks for all your hard work testing all of this. I'll let you know what happens.

  • I can confirm that the splitter and scaler I purchased from clearvisionsystems UK works for me. 4K 60HZ 10 bit color. no issues for an hour of play. I used my PC and PS4. It also worked perfectly with HDR. I'll probably post a video in a bit when I get home from work tomorrow.

Really glad it is working for you! I'm not sure why I had so many problems honestly!

  • I did some more testing and found one issue regarding HDR gaming. It seems that when I make the switch to HDR from non HDR my LED strip starts flashing white. The way I get around it is to have the HDR setting already checked before you launch the game. If I do that it works fine on Windows/PS4. The strip functions correctly after that on HDR. A bizarre issue but not a big deal for me. Everything works when I power everything from Off to On at the same time. No need to connect things in a certain order.

Here's some more info on my setup for anybody who's curious. I'm using APA102 leds and a RPi3. I didn't want to bother with a HDMI switcher. I'm using the downscaler and splitter combo from earlier in the thread. Here's a picture of how everything is connected.

  • @Xynar

Thanks for reporting back on your setup! Do you know if the splitter strips out HDCP or copies the HDCP info from the TV as well?

I am looking into using the lightstrip with Netflix 4K and so far only the HDFury combination seems to allow for that.

The only real way to get 4k@60 with HDR10 and HDCP 2.2 is with an HDFury product. You can get an HDFury Linker but I would recommend the more expensive Vertex if you got money to spend (with a Vertex you wouldn't need a splitter). The HDFury products are sadly quite costly but I've got an Linker and it works like a charm. For a HDMI2AV converter, you only got one choice if you don't want to purchase an additional HDCP1.4 stripper because there is sadly only one HDCP1.4 capable converter available at the moment (https://www.ebay.de/itm/332423615718). If you don't really want to build it your self I can recommend you the lightpack products, their 4k should be soon available and would come at the same cost like the build I described you above. EDIT:
There is always the cam option (https://hyperion-project.org/t…on.2615/page-4#post-10624)

It's working on PS4 Netflix @ 4K HDR no problems. If it'd strip out the HDCP info Netflix wouldn't play correct? So it seems to work with that splitter.

Thats great, thanks! I assumed I had to fake/strip the HDCP signal for it to work, but as long as I have a 4k capable sink attached this seems like a good alternative to the HDFury products.

With what device do you downscale the signal so you hdmi2av converter can accept it ?

  • The splitter automatically detects the maximum resolution of both outputs then sets the maximum resolution of the device with the lowest resolution.

So without the scaler, the splitter would output 1080p across both outputs.

Wasnt my question but I found the device that downscales the image and its "quite" cheap compared to the HDFury products.

HDFury told me that they may add support for dolby vision stripping but till then this is the best way I guess and with a Revesun splitter you ain't having the hdcp troubles.

Oh, my bad, I misread the question. I wanted to go with HDFury but I couldn't justify the price for what I need it for. £300 is insane for a splitter/scaler. Especially, considering they are cheaper alternatives. If its the Revesun I'm thinking of it only outputs at 30Hz. For most people, this is fine as most video content doesn't exceed 30fps.

yea you're right. according to "http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39508"

    Zitat

The box does seem limited in that it looks to be only using a 9 GHz chip. So as far as I can tell, this box cannot do 4k @ 60Hz, only at 24Hz.

I've got an 18gbps ligawo splitter, a hdfury linker, and the 2160p HDMI Converter. I ordered an HDMI to VGA and VGA to RCA Converter, this may be a cheaper solution if the utv007 grabber accepts the RCA signal (The HDMI to VGA Converter strips HDCP1.4 according to the seller).
