TPmodding Are RGBW SK6812's still the best to get for a new setup?

Any particular reason you went with WS2812B and not SK6812 RGBNW ?

I am looking to build a new setup for my Samsung 49" screen.
Having read the forums here, I understand that the suggested LED strips are SK6812 RGBNW.
I intend to use a Zotac Ion PC which I already have behind the PC as the Hyperion server (currently running MythTV frontend), with a HDMI to USB capture device (already this, sat idle).
What is the recommended approach for driving the LED strips - connect directly to the PC somehow, or run from NodeMCU or similar using WLED ? I'm currently tempted by WLED at present.
One further question, it has been suggested in a couple of places that the Hyperion server can be installed anywhere, it doesn't have to be near the TV. If this is the case, how are people getting the media to either the capture device in the Hyperion server or to the TV?
