    Thank you for the answers.

    I also found hyperion-android-grabber

So instead of using an rooted LG with Picap, I could use any android TV with the grabber? is that correct?

im guessing the android grabber has similar limitations with DRM apps?

Or I could just get something like an nvidia shield and grab the HDMI signal.

Still not sure what the "optimal" setup would be.

    It probably comes down to

    TV grabber:

    + easier to use

+ works with "native" TV content/apps

    + less hardware

    - no DRM support

    HDMI grabber:

    + works with every TV

    + works with DRM content

    - does not work with "native" TV content/apps

    - more hardware

    - more complicated (especaly with multiple HDMI sources)

    also one more question:

If I use an DRM App (lets say Netflix) on an external device (like nvidia shield) connected to the TV via HDMI. And still use PiCap on the TV. Would PiCap still be unable to capture the content?

    Hi there.

Im in the fortunate position of buying a new tv before choosing the rest of my hyperion setup.

I amdefinetly planing on using hyperion thoug. (I dont want phillips ambilight since it is not compatible with wled. Also i enjoy the diy part of hyperion).

So is an LG TV the optimal choiche here?

If Im not mistaken LG TVs are the only ones that can run PicCap?

Also PicCap seems to be a way more convenient option, because it works with the TVs own Apps instead only one HDMI input.

Are there other TVs beside LG that can run PIcCap (or something similar)?

Are there any downsides to using PicCap instead an external HDMI grabber?

    Thanks for your help!
