Yes, totally valid and better than most generic supplies. PC power supplies give you clean regulated 5V and 12V simultaneously, are properly grounded, and overcurrent protected. Two things to know. First, short the green wire to any black wire on the 24 pin connector to turn it on without a motherboard. Second, add a small dummy load resistor on the 12V rail, around 10 ohm 10W, to keep it stable under light loads. Use a decent brand like Seasonic or Corsair even a budget one and you will be fine.

Mounting LED strips in a 45-degree aluminum profile is a good idea. It will direct the light outward, reducing wasted light behind the TV, and the frosted or diffusing cover will minimize visible hotspots. The aluminum also acts as a heat sink, which helps LED longevity. At 6 €/m, it’s a reasonable investment. Just ensure the LEDs are fully adhered to the profile for proper cooling and that the profile is securely mounted. This setup should give a cleaner, more uniform backlighting effect compared to sticking the LEDs directly on the TV.

Hyperion runs as a service on Armbian, so SSH into the LePotato as usual using its IP. Check that SSH is enabled (sudo systemctl status ssh) and running on the correct port. If you meant SSH into Hyperion itself, that’s unnecessary—manage it via the web GUI or terminal commands. Good luck with the LED setup!
