Hello, still using hyperion for now. Was focused on other parts of my theater and enjoying it.

What are the best settings to compensate for HDR? How low can both of these settings go?

pclin looking up HyperHDR and I think I'm going to move to that program instead since it seems to solve all of my specific problems at the same time.

It looks like I can switch platforms and not have to change my current devices that already work great. If I change my mind I'll be back. Thanks for all the help and an awesome program.

Sidenote - Mario Kart world HDR ambilight is stable now, but the colors are very washed out so I may jump to HyperHDR or buy the downscaler anyway.

Ok. what is the best solution you recommend? I can live without 4k120 ambilight capability, hopefully I don't have to unhook any cables before playing a 120hz game

This is my first time using a RaspPi. But I get what you're saying.

• Splitter - CorsaHD - I bought it because it supports 4k@120hz which I'd like to take advantage of someday with my Series X. The GoFanco only says 4k60.

• Mario Kart World apparently "outputs at a resolution of 1440p and is then upscaled to 4K by the console."
  
  
• as for ARMS: While ARMS was originally released for the first-generation Switch and runs at 1080p, it can be upscaled to 4K when played on a Switch 2.

I wonder if I'll have better luck if I connect the HDMI Main Out from the reciever directly to the TV, no splitter, like I originally planned.

So far the only setting I know of may surpress all HDR output options to SDR, which isn't what I want.

New work item: SDR and HDR ambilight stuff was turning on fine until I finally introduced my Onkyo RZ50, which was the end goal all along.

• SDR ambilight gaming works fine with the RZ50
• but when I switch to an HDR compatible game and HDR automatically turns on, Hyperion bugs out.
  • Lights flicker, hang, and crash.
  • Or sometimes it works the way it used to, including slightly more washed out colors than SDR.
  • Then I have to unplug my Pi again to unfreeze it which I now know is a bad thing to do 😅

I wanted all my consoles routed through the HDMI Inputs of the RZ50, So I believe this is primarily an RZ50 issue.

What are my options at this point?

1. Move to HyperHDR to access the HDR to SDR function?
   
   • (seems like the option that costs the least money lol)
2. Buy a new 4x2 HDR compatible splitter/switch?
   
   • I'd rather not do this since I like the $80 one I have and can no longer return it.
3. browsing some forum posts, I saw a possible 3rd option which involves changing some Hyperion settings for my usb capture card (Mirabox), but not sure if this applies to my problem and haven't tried it yet

Did some more testing today and noticed something interesting.

Each of my two Switch 2 HDR games make my lights behave differently:

• When I turn on ARMS and the display auto switches to HDR, no problems at all.
  • (color accuracy could be better but I never minded that much. This actually may be a system HDR settings issue, but that's a separate topic)
• However when I switch to Mario Kart World HDR, everything collapses. Happened mulitple times last night.

on a separate topic, I'm looking at the recommended goFanco HDR > SDR splitter and I might just pull the trigger on it. Paying for peace of mind and finally being done with my setup I've been spending all year building might be worth it. 😩

I can stop being lazy and start using Putty/Terminus commands again, this time from my phone. I didn't know there was a phone app for this until today.

So it sounds like the push button is a physical button? I can take a look.

I think I'll mark this as resolved because unplugging and replugging fixed the issue. No problems since. My main Hyperion system has always worked near-flawlessly without any need for an update, just periodic restarts.

But I am still curious about whether unplugging the Pi without shutting it off is bad or not.

Replugged my pi setup back in and I can't access Hyperion. Game picture sync is very delayed, LEDs are stuck.

What's the easiest way to fix this and what am I supposed to be doing next time?

messing around with capture cards was the worst part of the process for me. I wasted hours of time fiddling with cards that never would have worked anyway. That was before I starting asking around the forum, which I should have done much earlier. I promise it gets better after this part.

I think there is a recommended list on here, and I think the Mirabox is on that list, which I bought on amazon for maybe $25.

From my experience I would avoid the cheaper USB sticks completely.

Hey guys so I figured it out, partly with Chat GPT. I had to use "Custom" in one of the new instance options. How would I reinstall or update Hyperion if I needed to? Glad I didn't have to.

Twice I've tried to connect a new 2nd ESP32/WLED controller to Hyperion and then everything stops working. All lights go black and I can't access Hyperion anymore. What am I doing wrong? I dont even get the chance to create additional settings.

I wasn't able to find clear instructions on how to create a new instance either.
