Ok great, let me know when you get home what result you got, just "stop" hyperion from HyperCon and then "start" and try change leds colors again and see if it works
I have new updates, the thing acts exactly like this:
When I first boot PI, I can send colors from HyperCon without problems and it changes.
If I press "stop" and then "start" in HyperCon, then its over, won't work and connection to host will fail.
It feels that if rasp fully boot and I start hyperion it doesn't work anymore, but if it boot and meanwhile hyperion loads then it works..
Can you try stop/start? and change oclors?
With Arduino Nano it works, but I don't want to use that. I'll try the level converter solution, and see if this solves the issue, you think that's the reason why after boot is not working anymore? if I restart the hyperion?
ssh in: version : V1.03.4 (brindosch-c750c41/dc6a602-1522918225

Now it works, somehow I have to be lucky and send the colors before the raspberry pi loads fully and then it works.. but not always, what could be the issue? what ca be wrong? I am using same as you everything. Why sometimes it works and sometimes not.
What tests should I do, any idea? to figure out exact issue?
"Now I pressed "stop" and "start", and its over, won't work anymore.
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ pidof hyperiond

well it worked once, somehow, but not working again anymore, was some luck, I was restarting the pi while I was sending with hypercon some colors to it, and somehow it worked.. but now not anymore.. it feels something happens wrong

Ok, thank you a lot, will test it tonight!
Do you have default user/password for root?
Funny if I have MyHyperionConfig in "name" I get cannot connect to host.
If I have "name" : "MyPi", it connects but has other issues..
how is your config.txt looking like?
No way, what you using OPENELEC?
I am so pissed, wasted days now to solve this, I have it same as you have it and its not working.
Its some software issue here, must be.. can you tell me exact versions you use?
I have Rasp pi 3 B
Anyone here still trying to do this? any progress?
Hello, can you send us the hyperion conf file for the WS281X to work?
I've added on the pin 8 (GPIO 14 TXD) the converter level and then connected to the data in of the led strip.. but the leds don't light, what am I doing wrong? I am just testing hyperion + rpi3 + leds, no video capture yet.
2812b will work without, in theory. I actually had problems with it and went with the arduino route, which is working flawlessly.
Any tutorial without it? would prefer to not use arduino..
nothing no, you can write new drivers for it...
Thanks sir for the response, thank you for creating this community for all the fans of ambilight. I'll order a new one then and wait to see if this gets solved.
Another question is, can I "ditch" the Arduino and just use raspberry with my WS281X? or its mandatory to have the arduino for this type of led strips?
That's not a STK1160 chipset.. that's an unsupported one. There's no driver for the raspberry for this, as far as I am aware.
Try to find an UTV007 one.. the colors aren't as good, but it's more common and causes less trouble.
I want colors to be as best as possible, can you tell me what other options I have? what shall I order exactly? or if I can write the driver?

Wow , and I bought two of this.. paid 50 euro for nothing..
Are you sure there is no way to solve this? can't I write myself the support for it?
Hey Arakon, thanks for being here.
Leds are working, I can control them from HyperCon.jar , to change their colors, but when I plug all the video grabber and everything, problem starts to kick in.
My STK1160 Video Capture is not seen in the USB properly, I think I am missing some software that I have to setup for this video capture?
Any idea?

Hello,
I can't get this working, I have led strip WS2812B with rasp pi 3 and arduino nano, I use OPENELEC.
I am sending the config file to the open elec via SSH, but the leds are not showing anything. I also uploaded on arduino uno software for this and set the correct pins.
Any idea what I am doing wrong? I select (WS281X) in hyperion.
Please help me
