The /etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf does not exist on my PI...

Here is what is in config.txt

    it appears to be there...

Try another GPIO pin, make sure your using the GPIO number and not the physical pin number, change it in Hyperion and see if it works.

As you have a meter you could quickly check the signal wiring, set it to ohms, unplug the signal wire to LEDs from the gpio connector and gently touch the the metal connector with 1 lead then touch the other on the data connection of the 2nd LED, what resistance do you get there, also do it at the first connection? and do another with just both meter leads touching each other. See what readings you get and hopefully rule out the wiring:thumbup:

I took my meter, set it to ohms. Connected a lead to GPIO-18 and the other to the data wire..

I was jumping up and down between 05.xx and 08.xx (it was just jumping all over the place)

I will have to create something to get the LEDs to GPIO-18....

Thanks again, when I get home tonight I will post it and do these tests ! Thanks again !

I did try some other pins without luck (I have been playing with this over a week now before posting this) and I used a PIN out of my PI to make sure it was listed right. Unless the commands that DrZz didn't work, is there anything else on the PI level I should check out ?

I'll try the meter tonight if I get the time. I would love to get this fixed ASAP, I've been driving myself nuts with this....

Have you had looked into the Log (System->Log in the UI), if there are any errors reported?

Are you able to run a single color effect from the Remote Control?

I have checked the log, I see no errors or anything for that matter. I am not able to play any colors on the LEDs on the assorted tests... They stay completely black. Well, I had power connected while testing and I shut the whole system off, a bunch of the LEDS lit up for second.

It looks like Hyperion is working correctly but, not outputting anything.

Any other tests I can run that can confirm it's getting a signal out?

Should I be adding back a Arduino into the MIX ?

    HI,

I had a previous setup working, this was using the older Hyperion Java app. I had the USB grabber with the HDMI to A/V. Running 4K/HDR content started to become an issue. Otherwise this worked perfect. I saw DrZz's video, and with a new grabber decided to update everything.

    Here is my hardware

    • Raspberry PI 3B
    • 253 W2812b LEDs attached to the TV (confirmed working fine).
    • Had a 5v 10a PS but, reading the New Hyperion suggestions of 16.7a, I grabbed a 30a one.
    • A 4K 60hz grabber ( )

    I followed DrZz's video (

) to the T and no matter what I do, the LEDs do not not light up.

As I followed that video, I also watched other videos and lots of searching on here to try to troubleshoot without luck.

I verified points from the LEDS to the PI/Power supply is strong and connected with a voltmeter. The suggested power for my LEDS is 16.7a, I upgraded to a 30a one so it does not peak and should stay cooler. This runs the LEDs and the PI.

I am running build/alpha 9, the newest one of Hyperion(no problems connecting via the web page). I have my Data pin(green wire) going from my LEDS to GPIO-18 on the PI as suggested. The LED type is w281X and it's set to GPIO-18. The layout should be perfectly correct with corner correct and 253 led as listed. Everything DOES have a common ground, double checked this one and am very clear (had LEDs flashing on the old setup till I did this)

The Grabber works after setting USB capture, I open the preview, I see the video playing, and I see the LEDs where they should be lit up, everything from this look great.

I did follow on DrZz's video to run these commands on the PI (so I can use GPIO-18)
    sudo systemctl disable --now hyperiond@pi
    sudo systemctl enable --now hyperiond@root

Any other things to try ? I am lost now. LEDS did work fine with the old setup, plenty power, data pin has a solid connection as well as LEDs have plenty of power. Preview looks great, but, nothing to the LEDs..

I am looking for ideas to troubleshoot this deeper, so if you have something I should try please let me know.

Thanks in advance if ANYONE can help here before I pull out my hair !

I might try that one. Incidentally it seems that my HDMI cables play a big part as well. I have some no name or cheap cables that seem to "choke" and blink out. Once I change the cable things are much better.

It's a cheap device. They claim 4K 60hz but, when I got it, the box says 4K 30hz. I tested and it clearly works with 4K 60hz.

My AVR would drop the lowest setting, so those cheap HDMI to A/V only support up to 1080p, so it would cause my my Media Center to drop to 1080p when my Ambilight was connected.

After this device, 4K 60, HDR10+...no problems at all. Tested 4-5 different movies...

Yes, use a decent cable. I noticed fairly good cables that are short will carry 4K 120hz no problems (I have a Xbox Series X) but, go past 10 feet, all bets are off. If you are using a 6 foot or less, unless it's really cheesy you'll be fine.

I started with one of those before I found out that the Denon VSX-90 with it's 2 HDMI outputs will not output on the second channel any source is a HDMI.

There is a setting in the menu where I could set dual output, or select another device. I do have a Denon AVR-X6200W, not sure if there is a difference here.

EDIT: the VSX-90 is Pioneer, not a Denon... so can't really help here, unless you have the model wrong ?

Check your on screen menu settings....

    I also have a 4K tv... I run content in 4K @ 60hz.... I found this device that works with 4K 60hz...

It captures to 1080p but running through my AVR, it shows it's capturing video when I am running 4K, or 4K HDR content fine...

Just a FYI if someone wants to input 4K content... It's just a capture device. MY AVR has 2 HDMI outs for different zones or a 2nd monitor...

    Hi,

Thanks for this. I was using a setup that was based on this video from... This was based on the older Java based version of Hyperion. It worked, my 2812B LEDs worked, no problems. This used the HDMI to A/V device and a A/V to USB converter with a Arduino Uno.

I upgraded my grabber(for 4K content) and wanted to use DrZZs video using less hardware(no Arduino Uno and just use a PI). I am using a PI 3

First of all, the LEDs are not lighting up. I am using GPIO #18/ pin 18, I am using the jack right next to it for the ground (common ground to stop flickering)... I need to do a little more troubleshooting but, I think I might be missing something here. Again, this worked perfect with the first video, so I know there is no issues with the LEDs..

Video grabber works, in the preview, I can see what is playing on the TV... that is good.

My bigger issue is the LED layout.

My TV(65") has 82 across the top and on the bottom, there is stand right about in the middle of the set, so 3 LEDs are not there for a wire jumper there.. From the front 40 LEDs on the right and 39 on the left.. If I set the gap on the web based Hyperion it removes LEDs. So I have total of 253 LEDs but, if I set the gap of 3, it only shows 250 LEDs. This is set with the 281X

I had to manually move the GAP to the bottom of the screen and put it between 40 and 41 and change LED 0 to be on the bottom right.

How do I set it so I have 253 LEDs and having a gap with out losing LEDs. ?

"background effect" is to be set in the WebUI of Hyperion.NG, by default it is on "warm mood blobs", meaning this effect is displayed when there is no signal.
You don't have to modify anything in your Arduino sketch.

I am not using the Hyperion.NG, I am still using the Java app, I didn't upgrade because I am still testing and that what I was working with.

Is there a way to do it on the old app ?

I was wondering if this was possible as well. I got mine working the other day. I have it connected to my 2nd HDMI out on my Denon AVR. It works fine accept when I shut off the TV/AVR (it's macro'ed out), it goes to RAINBOW colors and is really bright, needing me to run behind the TV and power the PI/UNO/ and power supply off.

Is there a setting to turn the LEDs off once no signal is found ?

Looking over the Adriano code would disablng this do what i am looking for ?

#define OFF_TIMEOUT 15000 // ms to switch off after no data was received, set 0 to deactivate

Edit: After a lot of back and forth I found something interesting. I as I un-plugged the UNO(to re-flash a setting change), I tried to restart Hyperion and it would not error out and it looked like it was sending as normal. Normally when I would connect to the wrong USB device it would give a clear error in the logs that it can't connect item on tty(etc).

So, after seeing this, Wrong USB port ? WTF ? So I did a "dmesg | grep "tty" command via Putty (thank you google), and I watched things as I disconnected them and re-connected them. After seeing it showed up, it was on the wrong USB device, changed it and everything lit up.

I was kind of expecting the TX green light to blink when it was getting data, this never happened, and now that it's working, it still doesn't.

It's resolved now, I did get it work but, I wanted to post HOW I figured out what is wrong and HOW I fixed it.

I need tweak it, it's kind of really bright, and the colors are off a little but, I'll get to that one in a bit...

you use the old hyperion(classic) is there a reason why you dont use the new hyperion.ng(next generation)?

I'll give that a shot this morning. Is there any reason why the classic won't work ?

Edit: Tried to install on Windows so I can remotely control the LEDS and I cant even get it connected or see an option

Is there any issues with what i am using to do what I want to do ? I really don't want to do anything with the lights besides using them for Ambilights to enhance my gaming and movie watching.

    Hi,

I am another one who has been following a YouTuber who gave a list of gear and seeming easy directions...and after 3 days of searching, and looking at tons of threads, I am lost, I can only get SO far.

I did order all this stuff over a year and 1/2 ago, I did try to get it setup at one time and life got in the way, everything got put back in a box and it's been sitting (LEDS on the back of the TV), till about 2 weeks ago when I started thinking about doing this again. I want to get this running now..

    The devices I have.
    - Raspberry Pi 3 B
    - Arduino Uno R3
    - 5V – 10A Power Supply
    - 64gb MicroSD card.
    - WS2812B LEDS 256 of them going around a 65" 4k TV. There is a 4 LED gap on where the stand is.

So, In a NUT shell.. I have tested what I can. I have the Grabber working, I can see the image in Hyperion. I have been watching logs like CRAZY. I know the UNO is on the right Output (I confirmed one by one by watching the logs as I changed them). The video source is a 2nd HDMI out of a Denon AVR.

Maybe it's me but, by following the logs it appear it SHOULD be working but, on startup, the Uno shows 2 red lights on but, I see one quick green when it's turned on (if I catch it) and the LEDS on the TV all blink 2 times. That is all she wrote. Nothing else happens. The Uno from this part forward would only have the 2 red lights on it, the TX light no longer goes.. Could the Uno be possably bad ?

Tonight, I nuked the SD in the PI, reimaged it(with the same one used in the youtube video) and started over with no change. I did use my HyperCon config but, I didn't see an issue with it.

The Codi build on this is from 2016, it's completely outdated and can't even be updated through the menu in it and none of the programs there even work or do anything. If this all works I was just going to leave for Ambilight controller and abandon Codi.. (anyone got a build with Gaming Emulation it ? ). Seems like a big waste of a 64gb MicroSD card...

    Here is all my configs....

    HyperCon logs

If you are wondering how it's connected. See this post, as I followed the same thing and it's to the T...

ONLY differences, My UNO uses USB, not the printer type cable, and I only ran VIDEO, not audio (as it's not needed).

Sorry for the long post, wanted to give EVERY possible detail I can. IF I am missing anything, PLEASE let me know. I know a lot of this is not perfectly set but, as soon as the LEDs are working, I am planning to go back and tweak everything.

Thank you for your time and I hope I can actually use this soon :)
