    Hi,

im building a new htpc that runs linux mint (ubuntu) with kodi and have WS2812 leds and ESP8266 wifi arduino board (link)

will this work? can hyperion just be installed on the linux htpc that is connected to ardruno ESP board which the leds are connected to?

what about a grabber is it needed? and do i need kodi addon? a bit confused how to set this up/configured/installed without a Pi.

    ty.

Can you add Windows 10 Support? So we can use Hyperion, with just an Arduino and Kodi.

    +1
i would never use that junk (raspberry) to run a kodi server. ;)
i have no idea how people are even using it to run a media server (unless they are watching 800x600 resolution videos) it would lag on 1080p or 4K streaming 10GB+ videos.

there are other solutions out there that do not require a raspberry though, just a Ardunio or an ESP8266 with windows is enough.. personally, would have like to use Hyperion, but unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be happening either any time soon. :(

would there be a noticeable difference between the APA102s and 2812B for TV ambient lighting? just normal movie watching.
already had bought the 2812B before i learned about the APAs, haven't installed them yet and just curious if i should save them for another project and get the better one for the TV. my 60" TV requires about 4 meters.

Don't add a wifi module to an arduino.

Check out the esp8266 wifi module that can run arduino sketches natively.

    They're like $3 on Ebay

    something like this?

just started playing with arduino, so im not sure what is currently the best for wifi/arduino and to keep things pretty simple.

hope so.. im here if needed to test. i picked up 5 meters of WS2812B for a 60" TV that had philips hue strips.
i suppose for the mean time i will have to find another solution. there are a few other options, but i hear Hyperion is the best ;)

want to eventually add a wifi module to the arduino so i can also control the lights with my smart phone. i found a few small guides out there.
i have a philips hue system as well (light strips) but honestly, they are a bit over priced and a bit overrated.. not to mentioned don't work very well for ambient lighting on a TV since the leds can't change to individual colors.

    Hello,
got some LED strips and want to install them on the TV for ambient lighting.
is it possible to run the hyperion software without a Pi? i downloaded the configuration tool and thought it can act as some client? i have a media/htpc that runs Kodi/windows 10 and an arduino board.

would have gone with OpenElec, but i use the htpc as a game streamer (Steam, etc) as well.

    thanks.
