Consultation on obtaining Image Source

After reading the official DIY tutorial, I have a question. It looks like you're connecting the TV to the raspberry pie with an HDMI cable, but I don't understand how the raspberry pie gets the TV display through the HDMI interface. The interface on TV can only be used as input, which is not understood here, but it works well to get the display from an external signal source. Thank you.
