TUTORIAL Use TV-SCART as picture source for Hyperion (DVB-C/T/S)

    Introduction

    In this tutorial i will show you how to extend your ambilight to capture the picture from your TV SCART (port) source.

    Warning: There are some limitations! Please read carefully!

    • It won´t work with all TV - SCARTs. This depends on how or if your manufacturer implemented it or NOT
    • Most TVs don´t output encrypted material (for example if you use a CI/CI+ card)
    • positive: you don´t lose much money if it won´t work (3€), because you could use the usb grabber (15€) for HDMI sources instead!

    Hardware
    You need just 3 things!
    Of couse, a already running Hyperion Ambilight too!
    You need to build one first? Follow this tutorial: Build your own one!

    1. A SCART adaptor

    2. USB grabber (Fushicai UTV007 for example)

    Connect the hardware
    The pattern for this is quite easy

    1. Plugin your SCART adaptor to your TVs SCART (be sure the "switch" is configured to OUTPUT)

    2. Plugin the usb video grabber to your Raspberry Pi usb

    3. Connect both with the composite cable (yellow to yellow)

    Done!
    Now back to Hyperion

    Configure Hyperion for V4L2
    We use the option V4L2 in HyperCon to enable this component in Hyperion. Also HyperCon is very useful to adjust the values.

    1. I hope you still have your hypercon.dat which was created automatically after you configured yor main ambient light, we need it now. Or you need to start from the beginning.

    1.1 Enable V4L2

    1.2 Choose your Video standard: PAL or NTSC (depending on region)

    1.3 Now get a screenshot following this wiki article

    1.4 Adjust crop values until you see no longer the black border following the informations on the bottom of the wiki page.

    1.5. If you are satisfied upload your new created hyperion.config.json to Hyperion

    1.6 stop and start Hyperion once (also at the ssh tap in HyperCon)

    Tutorial FAQ
    I can´t see a led light with scart, but i had success with all steps above!

    If you use Kodi, disable the grabbing for "menu" and hyperion will automatically switch to scart if you are at the Kodi menu.
