HyperCon Grabber - Tab

This page is a chapter in 'HyperCon Guide'

Welcome to the fourth part of our HyperCon round.
In this article we want to provide more information about the "Grabber" Tab.

Internal Frame Grabber

This grabber kicks in, when you want to grab the picture on the same device that hyperion is installed on.
Examples are Kodi in LibreELEC/OpenELEC/OSMC.
Hint: Disable this grabber if you don´t need it!
  • Aktiviert: If checked, the grabber is enabled
  • Width: The width of the picture that will be grabbed
  • Height: The height of the picture that will be grabbed
  • Interval [ms]: The interval in miliseconds how often a picture will be grabbed
  • Priority Channel: The priority channel of the grabber (LOWER value result in HIGHER priority!)
HINT: The default values are good, just change if you know what you do.

Grabber V4L2

The V4L2 (Video for Linux 2) grabber, gather pictures from a connected usb grabber (Fushicai USBTV007, ...)
So you just need to enable this setting if you want to grab from a usb grabber!
  • Enabled: If checked, the v4l2 grabber is enabled
  • Device: The system device path that is used
  • Input: The input that is used
  • Video Standard: choose between PAL/NTSC (depends on your region/converter setting)
  • Width: The width of the picture that will be grabbed (-1: no change, it will use the max value that your converter delivers)
  • Height: The height of the picture that will be grabbed (-1: no change, it will use the max value that your converter delivers)
  • Frame Decimation: The factor that is used to lower the resolution before it will be used from hyperion (saves CPU)
  • Size Decimation: The factor that is used to lower the resolution before it will be used from hyperion (saves CPU)
  • Priority Channel: The priority channel of the v4l2 grabber (LOWER value result in HIGHER priority!)
  • 3D Mode: The mode that the picture is formated when it hits the v4l2 grabber (Hint: A change during use is not possible!)
  • Crop Left: Use this setting to cut off the left black border and left-edge noise from your grabbed picture (see HINT: below) (in pixel)
  • Crop Right: Use this setting to cut off the right black border and right-edge noise from your grabbed picture (see HINT: below) (in pixel)
  • Crop Top: Use this setting to cut off the top black border and top-edge noise from your grabbed picture (see HINT: below) (in pixel)
  • Crop Bottom: Use this setting to cut off the bottom black border and bottom-edge noise from your grabbed picture (see HINT: below) (in pixel)
  • Red Signal Threshold: Adjust in percent. If the red is too dark, it will be zero (recognized as black)
  • Green Signal Threshold: Adjust in percent. If the green is too dark, it will be zero (recognized as black)
  • Blue Signal Threshold: Adjust in percent. If the blue is too dark, it will be zero (recognized as black)
We need first a working basic configuration file before you could setting up your crop values or further testing. If you have done that already proceed with HyperCon - Get V4L2 Screenshots
if not, just follow the guide now to the next page HyperCon External - Tab. We will come back to this later.

1. If you have a working basic configuration, we could proceed to adjust your v4l2 picture:
HINT: Default values should be good. In any case you need at least the crop values for your v4l2 grabber and the right Video Standard selected!
2. You need a picture from your v4l2 grabber you could look on. Tutorial: HyperCon - Get V4L2 Screenshots

3. As explained in this tutorial you should see a picture

As you see you need to adjust the crop values. You could change the value and take a new screenshot to get a new picture with the crop value(s). Common values are around 0-30 (depending on your picture)

4. If you are ready the picture should look like the following. All blurred and black borders are gone!

HINTS:
  • Make sure you cut off the "blurred" lines in between the picture and dark black area too.
  • Higher all crop values with at least 5 pixel, not all tv channels have the 100% same black borders, so you could catch all in one
  • Your leds are off now, cause hyperion can´t be active at the same time you do screenshots. You need to click on "Start" at the HyperCon SSH - Tab or reboot
  • frame and size dezimation is hardcoded to (2/1) to reduce green lines, your setting is still used at the config file for daily usage.
