myself, i supplied 5v at each corner of my tv as i was suffering voltage drop on the long lengths of leds. it was noticible with the odd white flicker but more obvious in the color of the leds that i had an issue.
the leds changed shade the further it got from the supply when i fed it 5v from only one end.
now its fed at all 4 corners i have consistent colors and no flicker.
can you show me how you did it with a picture or something thank you
How do i know if i just need to replace the one led that was smoking, or do i need to replace a whole line. How do I use multimeter for apa102?
Hey guys, I cut the GND and 5v and since they were close together, i cut them both at the same time. What I forgot was that the wire cutter conducted the 2 wires and I saw smoke coming out of first led. How do I fix this because now the ambilight doesnt turn on
I create on config on hyper con as rgb byte order=rgb
When I upload a test video, blue shows as red and vice versa.
When I go back and change rgb byte order=bgr
'
I then save and even create a config too.
when I choose local config path in ssh and send config, I stop start and the color didnt change. I looked at log and the byte order is still rgb
Help?
I am not quite sure I understand on the guides.
So for my Rpi 3 and apa102 , I need to "level shift" gpio pins into CI/CO,DI/DO. When you are referring to signals, is it the signals that communicate what color each led turns?
Do I still need to run another wire across the tv for 5v and gnd?
I saw I needed a breadboard, is there a specific one i need?
My Pi and Ambilight set up is finished, I got the rainbow swirl and everything.
However my lights are flickering a bit sometimes.
I used 158 APA102 lights for my tv (10 amps), for a length of 19 feet (82 inch tv). I used 17 awg primary wire (IS PRIMARY WIRE OK? it said on packaging for automotive use)
Currently I have the beginning and end strip's GND and 5V (all at the BOTTOM RIGHT) linked to a terminal strip and then linked to the 5V 15 A power supply.
I figured since there are 9 feet of LED STRIPS going clockwise from BOTTOM RIGHT and counterclockwise from BOTTOM RIGHT, that I would need to wire the 5V from led at TOP LEFT to the positive power supply and GND to the negative power supply terminal strip.
I still have one more question before I try this.Since at the BOTTOM RIGHT I have a male to female connected to the gpio pin 6 for grounding, will I also have to ground the TOP LEFT corner? Or is it like DI/CI CO/DO where I only need to have the signal go one direction.
My main questions are underlined.
In the video. white circle is BOTTOM RIGHT and yellow circle is TOP LEFT (ssorry for mixmatching)
You can see flicker near the white circle in this video

It doesn't save as a json file, but when I click on it, it asks me to open up using internet explorer notepad etc

ok i see that it said no valid config file
I dont know where to save my file, i just press save and it says "succesful"
I cant seem to create/save a configuration with file type as json

Hey guys, I am new to the Pi community and the ambilight will be my first project. I have TONS of questions, and I can't find a direct answer to some of them so I was hoping some of you guys could help.
Background:
I plan/have on using these items
Samsung 82' Q6
Raspberry Pi3 w 16GB sandisk microsd
About 18-19 feet of APA102 led strips (all 4 sides of tv) (connected using either solder or quick corner connect, not sure which yet)
DC 5V 15A power supply
Basically everything on this guide
My goal for this project if to be able to use netflix (directly on my samsung tv, or on my custom built pc), consoles like nintendo switch, everything on my pc (gaming on pc or browsing internet, youtube), and normal cable tv(not as important).
Here are my questions,
1)Will the Pi3 3 create ambilight for ANYTHING that is on my screen? No matter which HDMI input I am on? Or will I have to use the HDMI splitter and 4k downscale things I've read in some DIY ambilight guides. (If I do need to do this, can someone link a good guide for materials I need along with directions?)
2) How do I turn off the rasberry Pi? Since it is kinda like a computer, when I turn my Tv off does it automatically shut off? I dont wanna waste its life by keeping it on when im not using the tv. Or can I just unplug everything, with a slave socket (will it ruin the pi3?)
