Thank you both for the tips!

So it seems that the way using the non-addressable LEDs isn't easy. Raspberry is a bit of an overkill for this, if you just want to illuminate the shelf, the bed, the closet, etc... I had in mind some Arduino things. Just to use a few such strips that would communicate with the Hyperion as a center. Is there any solution for that?

I didn't think it would be that complicated. Especially since similar strips have been used in PC cases, for example, I think.

    Hello everyone!

I have one useless LED strip at home. It has 4 pins to connect: R, G, B, and 12V. The chip is 5050. It is divided per 3 diodes, exactly as in the picture bellow. I know this can't be programmed diode by diode, like the APA102, but it would definitely find use anyway. Is it possible to connect to Hyperion? Could someone please guide me to a topic where this is being addressed? Which configuration, protocol ... to choose?

SOLUTION: Just RPi GND needs to be connected to PSU. After that every thing was fine. I feel pretty embarrassed :)
Hi everyone, hope that someone can help me with this issue:

I recently bought an APA102 led strip (300 diodes). First time was everything fine - rainbow effect at start etc:

But I did not have much time to attached it to the TVs frame so I left it for later. Yesterday I decided to do it all. Configuration was the same as the previous. But diodes just flashing randomly. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I tried to clean reinstall OSMC and Hyperion without any luck. Every time it is turned on LEDs just go crazy. Here is how it looks:

    My config is:
    Raspberry Pi 2
    OSMC 2016-12
    Latest Hyperion and Hypercon
    APA102, 5m, 60 leds/m
    90W PSU

Both sides of led strip are connected to 5V and GND. Clock is from RPi pin 23 to led stripe beginning and data is from RPi pin 19 to led stripe beginning.

    Can someone help me please?
