Best LED Choice for 85"?

  • Hello,

I have had an ambilight setup on my TV since the days of Boblight. My current TV is a 65" with 206 LPD8806 based LED's around it. I have a 5v 15A power supply (if memory serves correctly).

I recently upgraded that TV to an 85" and I want to build a new LED setup. Lately I have been using "Android Hyperion Grabber" but I am interested in going the hardware capture route.

Can anyone offer me some guidance on:

    1) What LED strip is likely the best choice for such a large screen?

    2) What HDMI capture card/converter is most commonly used with RPi's? I have an STK based capture card but no HDMI converter/splitter.

My Denon AVR has dual HDMI outputs so I shouldn't need a splitter but I'd like to preserve all current HDMI 2.1 / HDCP 2.3 functionality so if sticking with the software capture is best thats fine.

    Thanks in advance!

I think I am leaning for APA107 or HD107s for the LED's. As for the capture/splitter I can't read the recommendation threads very well because they are primarily written in German.

Does having the additional output on my Denon AVR help make things easier on the HDCP / HDR / Dolby Vision front or would I still risk breaking certain formats with the wrong splitter?

  • SK6812 RGBW-NW best colors

    HD107s/HD108s good colors, highest speed

HDMI 2.1 / HDCP 2.3 is problematic, is currently only with LG webOS TV's

    Ambilight for ever

  • Thanks for the feedback on LED's, the thread you linked is sort of hard for me to follow given it's got a lot of German.

Do I need a splitter if my receiver has dual HDMI outputs, or just a capture device?

  • Half german and half english!

If you use 2 outputs on the AVR, it only outputs what both devices can do. If that's enough for you, you can do that.
