WS2811 (3 LEDs/segment) vs WS2815 Individually addressable?

  • Change WS2811/12V to WS2815/12v with 4K 55" TV for better effect? 1

    1. Don't know (1) 100%
    2. Yes (0) 0%
    3. No (0) 0%

I have made the change on my ambient TV lighting from WS2812 5V individually addressable LEDs @30 per meter to WS2811 12V @ 60 per meter but which address 3 LED's/segment (which took me a while to figure out what was wrong with the LED count!). I am wondering, for a 55" 4K TV, is it worth it to change yet again to WS2815 12V @ 60 per meter individually addressable???

  • It is best to use SK6812 RGBW-NW 30 LED/m if you are more than 15 cm away from the wall, otherwise 60 LED/m.

  • from personal experience, I have the TV 6cm from the wall but with APA102 30l/mtr there is little visible (gap) between the leds. I can rotate and alter the angle but then it's still there at the bottom leds...

Because the angle is 120 degrees the leds shining is not 100% in angle towards the wall.

Thatswhy I decided to go for the HD107s 60l/mtr that I ordered now to compensate that little gap, and because the ledstrip is already 2 years old

So, wall to close to the TV 📺 means you need more leds/mtr

  • SK6812 RGBW best colors.

    HD107s/HD108s good colors best speed.

  • And what exactly is the problem?

If there is WLED on it, the mentioned LED types should work with it.

  • Athom has 4 or so different models...
I have this 16w one without white: https://www.athom.tech/blank-1…ower-led-strip-controller

This is the 16w RGBW model: https://www.athom.tech/blank-1…bw-light-strip-controller

I could change to HD107s on my LS4P-WLED but would need the LS5P-WLED model to use the SK6812 strip.

I have noticed a response difference with the WS2812-60/m-12V vs the WS2811-30/m-5V I had before but I think that is possibly due to the number of addressable LEDs/segments? With 2811-30 I had 114 addressable LEDs and now with 2811-60 I have only 76 addressable segments. My strip length is 3.86m...

  • Both have WLED firmware, can't you select SK6812 in the WLED WebUI > LED Preferences?

  • Watts was a typo. They're rated for 16 amps so at 5V that's 80 watts.

I see the light now! The RGBW-NW part had misled me.
LS4P high power addressable controller is fine with SK6812!

I'll just need a larger 5V power supply since the one I have is only 40W.
