Controllers for new build and wired vs wireless performance

  • Hello Hyperion forum.

    I am about to take on a new lighting project. The last time I did something like this was, 10? years ago back when this type of system was called a boblight.

    I have ordered the following parts;

    5m SK6812 5v 60LED RGBW strip

    5VDC 30Amp PSU

    Various connectors and cables.

    My media player is an Nvidia Shield Pro. I am trying to avoid using a capture card. It is my understanding I should be able to get away by using the hyperion-ng app on my nvidia shield.

    What are my best options for performance/responsiveness, and stability. Is there a big difference in latency and reliability in using a rpi zero wirelessly or using an rpi 3,4,5 wired.
    Could I use an arduino and direct connect via usb?

    With Arduino you cannot achieve the baud rate required for SK6812, which then leads to delays.

  • What about wired performance vs wireless performance. If I go wireless with a Pi Zero will i have latency issues vs an rpi4 wired?

    Cable connection is preferable.
