The USB is used as data transfer (only data pins + ground connected). Using this successfully with 2M USB cable from Box to Strip. If you are using the whole LED strip, maybe a slightly bigger power supply is needed. For the power supply of grabber, converter and scaler i did cut the usb cabels on connect them to the power supply. Software running is hyperion-ng.
