While working on the bonjour/zeroconf support, there are some better cross platform libraries but they need qt5.
Is there anything stopping us from deprecating qt4 ?

Hm, OpenELEC - no
QT5 on raspbian wheezy via apt-get available?
On jessie for sure.
No idea if there are deeper code problems.
There are some functions that got dropped or renamed but we would have to run a test compile with Qt5 first to see the impact I think, overview of the changes are here as well:
https://wiki.qt.io/Transition_from_Qt_4.x_to_Qt5
Few changes listed there like toAscii and UTF8 but we would have to try it out and see it can be converted and re-test on all the platforms
Seeing several topics about Qt5 for Raspbian where it looks like it's in the repo and for wheezy it's in the backports:
uh, backports is not used by default right? hm, ok could be fixed with a modification of the sources list on wheezy.
It builds fine on OSMC - I'll repeat on raspbian.
Do w care about wheezy ?
We have no statistics, i think we should care, (raspbian)wheezy was deprecated with the release of RPi3 which is quite new. And when people want to use the new Apps i assume they just want to push the update button and not a reinstall with jessie. So i would deal with it. It blows up a little bit the script

Yep, not included by default afaik
Overview of Raspbian Qt5-default:
As explanation:
We already use raspbian wheezy as source for crosscompile. Jessie uses a newer version of g++ and gcc which we also run in trouble (backports). This ensure a working hyperion for all users.
So the lib versions available on wheezy should be the starting point. To include access to backports for QT5 is no problem.
We should start a list of things were prepared to gain, change (and lose) with 2.0
Platforms
Kodi versions
Qt versions
You would raise the number to 2.0 with the move to QT5?
We no longer install QT4 and just install QT5 instead?
Which platforms may kill that move? It should work with every platform?
Kodi we need to verify
It would be great to abandon qt4. It will reduce codesize of hyperion.
But for now we can change default to qt5 in cmake. And for precompiled bins we use qt4. So we can get some experience with qt5
